Denying health, life insurance to people with HIV illegal – lawmaker

MANILA, Philippines – Surigao del Sur Representative Johnny Pimentel reminded health maintenance organizations that denying insurance to people living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is illegal under therecently signed HIV and AIDS Policy Act of 2018.

Pimentel issued the clarification as standard insurance policies of insurance companies reviewed before the passage of the law, which took effect on January 25 this year, showed many still excluded HIV-related cases from their coverages. Read More
