It is time to let go of your past for there is a lot to gain from deliberately forgetting those unpleasant past experiences, failures and deep hurts. It is time to resolutely and intentionally reach for your goal of knowing Christ and enjoying His benefits. It is time to move on so that God’s purpose for your life can be fulfilled. Both positive and negative past events help shape your future, and it is good to learn from past experiences. However, dwelling on the unforgiven past is hardly productive as it may easily get you fixated on feelings of shame, guilt, anger, sorrow, regret and resentment. None of these feelings, in fact, nothing in or about your negative past should prevent you from enjoying God’s plan for your life.
Take a cue from Paul who chose to forget all that he suffered- imprisonments, beatings and shipwreck- to focus exclusively on becoming Christ-like. Stop reliving those images, rehearsing those hurts and begin to press forward to reach your goal.
Remember, you were created personally and lovingly by God who knows you intimately: He knows your strengths and weakness, sees your pain, sorrow and tears, knows your past and will weave all your experiences into the purpose that He has for your life.
Yes indeed, we must not allow the past to haunt and affect the future. We were made in God’s image and will eventually succeed if we remain focused and work diligently towards achieving our life goal.
Thank you for this. It’s difficult to forget a painful past. But we try. I have learned that acceptance makes it easier to get over. Peace prevails when we accept that we can never change the past.
Forgeting about ones past in itself can turn out to be a gigantic task, depending on how we go about doing it, thoghts in or head can be like a runnawy train, very often we place our selfs at the centre of a storm and forget that all Sins on earth is against the blood of Jesus, that was given to cleanse it, if one does not realise that, in this world nobody owes us anything but we owe God everything, our very life was bought with that precious blood, we were not purchased out of darkness for us to go about hindering the blood from cleansing other people sins. By standing inbetween the sin and the cleansing agent, we will be offering ourseves to the service of the contrary one, therby putting our own salvation at risk. Mark 11vs 26, Mathew 6vs 15
Yes this is true! In order for someone to be able to move on into new beginnings the old has to go, yes it’s true some things can be difficult to let go but with the help of Christ we are able to lay it down at the foot of the cross. This is where healing will begin to take place surrendering the pain and the baggage that come from the memories of past hurts. When we are able to do this we we will be able to venture into new seasons without any lingering buggages from our past. This is so evident and it’s a daily choice to make to surrender and lay down all past and present hurts, pain to Jesus.
Forget who hurt you yesterday but don’t forget those who love you, every day, forget the past that makes you cry and focus on the present that make you smile, forget the pain but never the lesson you gained
This is very instructive, for me to deliberately forget what’s past and move forward. In the moment of striving, it’s important to stay on course moving forward.
Thank you very much for this insightful piece.
For us to move forward, we truely have to forget the past and focus on God’s will in our life and diligently works towards the goal He has set for each one of us His children. God direct us as we seek you everyday 🙏🏽. A good read. Thank you
Forgiveness is a choice and it’s time to choose to let go!
Thanks for sharing.
Forgetting the past is certainly the right thing to do. However it can be hard sometimes because you are a product of all your past experiences. It takes grace to walk away.
Refreshing. May the Lord continually strengthen and enlarge your horizon in Jesus name.
Very appropriate. If you cannot alter the past, all is not lost; you can take it to the altar.
Thank you for this encouraging message. We do have no control over the past, but we can write new chapters with Him who is on our side and ready and able to write new , beautiful stories for the present as well as for the future 🙏
Short , succinct and realistic. We need these reminders as we transit life’s pathways.
Just thinking about Paul, he could have been held back by the guilt of his previous life persecuting Christians, but instead, the abundant grace he experienced from God propelled him to make a great impact for God.
God is a creative force, so whatever it is that we’ve experienced in the past should be in the past. Do we not know “that all things work together for good to them that love God”- Romans 8:28? God is able to turn our hurts into well being. He is able to do all things, we just need to surrender all to Him because of His promise that we should cast our “anxieties on Him because He cares” 1 Peter 5:7. Let’s remember there is God in all things.
The pain, suffering, humiliation, etc might be the past that we see as difficult to forget but we should take all of it as a lesson/test that God wanted us to go through for his glory, for as he passed throughout persecutions and overcame it all who are we not to go through difficulties/challenges for we are created in his own image. Psalms 34:19 “Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the LORD delivereth him out of them all”I believe as children’s of God our faith must be tested by either going throughout challenges such as poverty, sickness, hunger, humiliation, etc and all these needs to bring us close to God.
James 1:2-4
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Hmmmmm, I love this, am a living testimony to “let go of the past and embrace a fulfilling future”. Really when am angry I can’t pray and I got to a point that I knew no one is big enough to prevent me from communicating with my God. I have loads I need to speak to him about and I just could not do it with a heavy heart, that was my turning point and from then on, I overlook a lot of wrongs and see them as distractions.
What an inspiring piece. I choose to pilot my dreams into my future than become a harpless prisoner of my past.
