He calls you friend!

The Bible depicts God in various roles and uses analogies to describe unique facets of His character and relationship with us. He is, first and foremost, our heavenly Father and we are His children; He is the Potter, we are clay (Jeremiah 18); He is the Good Shepard, we are His sheep (John 10); He is the Vine, we are the branches (John 15). Additionally, He is, among others, the Refiner, Redeemer and King.

God is also our trusted close friend. In fact, Jesus calls us His friend insofar as we follow His commands (John 15:15). What a great honour and precious privilege to experience friendship with the creator of the universe. This friendship offers life-changing opportunities: unfettered access to His presence where we bask in unfailing love and amazing grace. Our trustworthy, dependable and reliable friend is always by our side for He promises never to leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). This means we can take advantage of His presence anytime we need to.

God is merciful and compassionate and, as He will share not only your joys but also your sorrows, you can dare to bare out your soul to Him as much as you want; He will never gossip about you! The reassuring truth is that He understands your past and accepts you the way you are today.

Are you enjoying this unique relationship?  He wants you to know Him intimately and experience friendship with Him. Yes, Jesus -God in flesh- is Lord and saviour of your life but are you His friend doing as He commands?
