In 2016, almost one in five new HIV diagnosis in the US were among women. African-American women are especially affected. African-American adolescent and adult women made up only 13 percent of the US female population and accounted for more than six of every ten new HIV cases among women in 2016. Latinas made up 17 percent of the US female population and accounted for 16 percent of all new HIV cases among women.
