{"id":68704,"date":"2024-12-16T18:36:50","date_gmt":"2024-12-16T18:36:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/positivelysharing.org\/blog\/?p=68704"},"modified":"2024-12-16T19:14:44","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T19:14:44","slug":"68704","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/positivelysharing.org\/blog\/2024\/12\/16\/68704\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC Arrests 792 Suspects In Single-Day Raid"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/businesspost.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/792-EFCC.jpeg\" alt=\"792 EFCC\" width=\"586\" height=\"330\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced its largest single-day operation against cryptocurrency and romance scam networks, arresting 792 suspects in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>According to the anti-graft agency, the operation targeted a seven-storey building in Victoria Island, Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the arrest, the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren said the building was being used by foreign nationals to train Nigerians in carrying out romance and cryptocurrency scams.<\/p>\n<p>The arrested persons included 114 Chinese nationals, 40 Filipinos, two Khazartans, one Pakistani and one Indonesian.<\/p>\n<p>The foreign scammers allegedly created fake profiles and provided their Nigerian collaborators with tools to target victims primarily from the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;They used desktop computers and mobile devices to engage victims in romantic conversations and fraudulent investment discussions on platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Telegram.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-57666\" style=\"text-decoration-line: underline;\" src=\"https:\/\/positivelysharing.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/EFCC-300x192.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"431\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/positivelysharing.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/EFCC-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/positivelysharing.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/EFCC-770x493.jpg 770w, https:\/\/positivelysharing.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/EFCC-360x230.jpg 360w, https:\/\/positivelysharing.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/EFCC.jpg 891w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 431px) 100vw, 431px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey usually arm them with desktop computers and mobile devices and create fake profiles for them<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-auto-placed ap_container\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Nigerian accomplices are equally provided with logs that allow them access to foreign communication lines and victims, which they chat with on WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cThey are also assigned WhatsApp accounts linked to foreign telephone numbers, especially from Germany and Italy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTheir jobs are to engage victims in romantic conversations and phantom business and investment discussions to trick them to shop on the purported online investment shopping platform called www.yooto.com.
